I've never been very good about keeping a sketchbook, but I am going to start fresh with this one. For some reason, a blank sketchbook can be very intimidating, so I've begun this one with a few lines from Pablo Neruda's Ode to Things. The poem is meant to remind me that these pages do not have to be filled with genius. (That would be nice!) Rather, they are to be filled with simple sketches of the things I see each day, those that most often inspire my work. I've also taped in a few of my old drawings which were sadly floating in my files. Now, I'm not staring at a blank sketchbook and am ready to begin.
